BALIAN is one of the coastal barangays of the municipality of Payao. Like many other communities, its inhabitants are poor so they have to work hard to make a day-to-day living.

Providing for the villagers’ livelihood are the rice fields, the hills that are planted with coconut and rubber trees, and the sea that teems with marine resources.

Indigenous Practice Paves Way for KALAHI-CIDSS

PARACELIS, Mountain Province — Espousing an indigenous practice has facilitated the completion of infrastructure projects in at least nine barangays in this northern municipality.

“Capitalizing in Makkolak or Sussunod has ensured that communities gave their counterparts and volunteered in the construction of KALAHI-CIDSS subprojects,” according to KALAHI-CIDSS area coordinator Maganese Almeda.

I HAVE BEEN witness to a number of habal-habal (passenger motorcycle) accidents. I have seen how difficult it is for village farmers to bring their products to the market. My heart bleeds for children who walk a long distance to school daily. All of these are caused by our rough, muddy and poorly maintained barangay road.
